Acupuncture for pregnancy and pre-birth support
Acupuncture can be an effective treatment for a wide range of pregnancy ailments.
A major benefit of having acupuncture during pregnancy is that it is drug free so there are no subsequent side effects that may be harmful to mother or baby and can be particularly helpful if you wish to reduce or avoid medication, for symptoms such as migraine headaches or sciatica, for example.
Some women want to have acupuncture for general well-being during their pregnancy and many women will come and have weekly, acupuncture sessions in the lead up to labour, in order to have more energy and to help them to sleep.
Some research studies suggest that having acupuncture in the weeks leading up to labour may help to relax the body and therefore help the women to go onto have a better experience during the labour itself.
Some of the issues that women come to see me for are:
- Morning sickness
- Stress and anxiety
- General well-being
- High or low B.P
- Migraines and headaches
- SPD or pelvic girdle pain
- Backache and sciatica
- Turning Breech presentation babies
- Pre-birth preparation
- To induce labour
- Teaching couples acupressure points for labour
- Postnatal restorative treatments
When seeking an acupuncturist for treatment during pregnancy, it is important to find a practitioner who specialises in this area.
